The section of railway between Bern and Neuchatel is being widened to a double track in stages. From 2012 to 2018, it's the turn of the section between Rosshäusern and Mauss. The key component is the construction of the new Rosshäusern tunnel, with a length of two kilometres, for which a gravel processing plant will be built directly on site.

Project
As general contractor, Frei Fördertechnik AG took on the planning of the plant feed, processing and water circulation as well as all plant sections for this contract. The batch feed channel and the concrete centre were installed by the client as used equipment.

Special features

Short planning and construction time: wiring diagrams, foundation plans, detailed planning as well as manufacture and assembly were completed within only eight months

System requirements: all parts had to be suitable for winter

Difficult conditions for assembly due to winter conditions

Difficult conditions for concrete work due to the ground water level

Scarce supply of fresh water: water was collected and recycled

Feed material: gravel, 0 – 250 mm (with screening)

Plant feed capacity: 100 t/h, 0 – 45 mm

Gravel processing: 555,000 t (estimated total volume)

Installed power: 655 kW (including concrete plant and belt feed tunnel)

Water circulation volume: max. 150 mm³/h

Final product, round gravel: 0/4; 4/8; 8/16; 16/32; 32/45

Installed machinery (selection): turbo washer, sand screw, sewage treatment plant with chamber filter press, screening machines, cyclone
